We shared the survey with 10 medical students from the target group to ensure that all respondents would similarly interpret the questions as well as the usability and technical functionality of the survey platform. The first part consisted of the 11 constructs used in this study: attitude, availability, transition cost, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, inertia, trust, subjective well-being, and intention to adopt. The second part comprised a survey focusing on demographic characteristics, such as gender and ethnicity. An overview of the instrument is provided in Multimedia Appendix 1 [32,36,83,84].

The eating disorder examination questionnaire (EDE-Q) [63] assesses ED symptomatology during the previous 28 days. It consists of 4 subscales: dietary restraint, weight concern, shape concern, and eating concern. By calculating the mean of these subscales, a global score can be formed. Items are answered on a scale ranging from 0 to 6, with 6 reflecting the greatest severity or frequency of ED symptoms.

The original DHL questionnaire was developed based on expert interviews. Five rounds of group discussions were conducted to refine the questionnaire, ensuring its alignment with China’s national context and cultural background. Subsequently, the first version of the DHL Questionnaire was formulated, using DIGCOMP as its theoretical framework. This study used expert consultation to validate the questionnaire’s content.

Similarly, the BM-U questionnaire was constructed, using the prevalent misinformation narratives related to the Russian invasion in Ukraine at the time of the study [40]. We selected 4 items from the original 8 based on pilot data according to the same procedure as in BM-C. BM-U items are shown in Textbox 1. Both questionnaires showed good internal consistency in both the pilot study (BM-C: Cronbach α=0.953; BM-U: Cronbach α=0.932) and in this study (BM-C: Cronbach α=0.846; BM-U: Cronbach α=0.891).

Before participating in this survey, all respondents provided their informed consent in accordance with the screening questionnaire and study information page. Participants were compensated with an incentive of 100 Thai Baht (3 USD) for completing the questionnaires. No identification data were recorded, and respondents were permitted to remain anonymous during the online survey.

Interested parents who contacted the study team were emailed a link to an eligibility questionnaire. Eligibility criteria is shown in Textbox 1. To improve generalizability, participating children did not need to regularly use mobile devices to be included in the study. Inclusion criteria: Parent was legal guardian of a 3‐ to 4.99-year-old child. Parent lived with the child at least 5 days per week. Parent understood English sufficiently enough to complete questionnaires and provide consent.
