Evaluation of Large Language Model Performance and Reliability for Citations and References in Scholarly Writing: Cross-Disciplinary Study

Topics were selected and categorized as either natural sciences or humanities. Topics were included if they were: (1) clinical or biomedical–related research in the natural sciences category and philosophy/psychology-related research in the humanities category, and (2) published in English. Topics were excluded if they were: (1) not in English, (2) related to a highly specialized or niche field, and (3) sensitive or controversial in nature.
