Relationship Between Heart Rate and Perceived Stress in Intensive Care Unit Residents: Exploratory Analysis Using Fitbit Data

Relationship Between Heart Rate and Perceived Stress in Intensive Care Unit Residents: Exploratory Analysis Using Fitbit Data

Residents are also called trainee physicians who have finished medical school and taken postgraduate training and clinical roles at hospitals. On top of their highly intensive training and demanding tasks at the ICU, these trainee physicians also generally struggle with more uncertainties and stressors that arise from both work and personal lives [5].

Parent Perceptions of Trainees in Pediatric Care: Cross-Sectional Study

Parent Perceptions of Trainees in Pediatric Care: Cross-Sectional Study

Clinical experiences involving diverse populations, resource levels, and medical complexity contribute to trainee skills, confidence, and career goals [3,12-14]. Given the importance of promoting progressively autonomous trainee clinical experiences across diverse backgrounds, it is important to understand how trainee involvement affects parent comfort and perceptions in pediatric care.

Developing a Web-Based Asynchronous Case Discussion Format on Social Media to Teach Clinical Reasoning: Mixed Methods Study

Increasing clinical demands and more recent needs for social distancing in the era of COVID-19 present barriers to attendance at long-form teaching sessions, suggesting that asynchronous teaching methods may be beneficial to trainee education [3]. Published interventions to present case-based teaching on the internet have used blogging platforms to disseminate clinical pearls [4,5].

Evaluating the Mental Health of Physician-Trainees Using an SMS Text Message–Based Assessment Tool: Longitudinal Pilot Study

Evaluating the Mental Health of Physician-Trainees Using an SMS Text Message–Based Assessment Tool: Longitudinal Pilot Study

In this pilot project, we trialed a simple, engaging, longitudinal, and single-item SMS text message–based survey system to evaluate physician-trainee mental health. We then evaluated the utility, usability, and burden of the SMS text message–based assessment system. Ultimately, the goal of these assessments was to monitor the stress levels faced at work by physicians at our institution.

Clinician Perspectives on Telemedicine: Observational Cross-sectional Study

Clinician Perspectives on Telemedicine: Observational Cross-sectional Study

As telemedicine maintains its foothold in outpatient medicine throughout and likely beyond the pandemic, it is necessary to understand a broad range of clinician perspectives on its impact on patient care, workflows, and trainee education, particularly since clinicians are more satisfied with telemedicine when they have input and support in its development [3].

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Education of Plastic Surgery Trainees in the United States

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Education of Plastic Surgery Trainees in the United States

Overall, the impact of the limitation in operative or surgical exposure for residents due to COVID-19 is dependent on the level of the trainee (greatest for senior and impending graduate residents and fellows) and the general length of the training program (greatest for those enrolled into shorter training programs, ie, 1-year fellowships) [1].
