In Canada, the South Asian population, one of the fastest growing ethnic minorities [7], has been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic with an increased risk of both infection and mortality from COVID-19 [6]. Age-standardized mortality rates among the South Asian population (31 deaths per 100,000 population) were second to Black (49 deaths per 100,000 population), followed by Chinese (22 deaths per 100,000 population) [6].

Unfortunately, the higher incidence of mpox among vulnerable groups in the current mpox outbreak deepens the stigma and discrimination against MSM and other sexual and gender minorities (SGM) and might worsen the structural barriers impacting access to health services, which ultimately leads to undertesting and underreporting of cases [9-12].

Despite significant shifts in the demographic landscape of the United States over the past 50 years, minorities remain disproportionally underrepresented in medical practice and research [1]. As researchers often rely on personal experience and background to formulate questions, inadequate representation of underrepresented minority leaders in clinical research is an impediment to the adequate study of health conditions relevant to minority groups [2].
