In addition, approximately 200 records contain URLs, and a substantial proportion of these are links to PDF disclosure forms maintained by the publishing journal. This leaves approximately 12,500 entities reporting the presence of COI of some variety. Most statements were not available on Pub Med or Pub Med Central. Of the 38,705 papers for which we sought to retrieve disclosure statements, only 3184 were available on Pub Med (8%).

Mapping the Evolution of Digital Health Research: Bibliometric Overview of Research Hotspots, Trends, and Collaboration of Publications in JMIR (1999-2024)

A total of 120 countries contributed to publishing in JMIR. Table 1/Figure 2 A presents the rankings of the 10 most prolific countries based on their total publication (TP). The United States ranked first with 2769 publications, accounting for 37.18% of the total 7448 publications. The United Kingdom followed with 949 publications, representing 12.74%, while China came in third with 798 publications, accounting for 10.71%.

More generally, there are already broader calls for the regulation of AI, and LLMs in particular, in general public use [4,5]. This is because generative AI has computationally become capable of elaborating research questions; refining programming code; generating text in scientific language; and generating images, graphics, or figures.

Table S1 of Multimedia Appendix 1 shows the top 15 most active journals (of the 8354 sources of publications) in publishing researches from Vietnam based on the total number of publications. Overall, most of these journals were middle-ranking journals (second to third quartile according to the Web of Science classification). Consistent with the result above, the number of publications in these journals increased significantly from 2000 to 2020.
