In contrast to Switzerland, a legal basis for the profession of osteopathy does not exist in Germany or Austria. In Austria, physicians and physiotherapists trained in osteopathy practice as osteopaths. Physicians are allowed to practice osteopathy without any restrictions, whereas physiotherapists are only allowed to practice osteopathy upon medical assignment [4].

Osteopathy in the Early Diagnosis and Management of Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy: National Survey

The objective of this work was therefore to investigate the nature and frequency of osteopathic care provided to individuals with DCM, to determine if osteopathy could serve as a focal point for improving timely access to appropriate treatment. The DCM osteopathy survey was designed to capture current interaction between people with DCM and osteopaths in the United Kingdom and is reported following the Checklist for Reporting Results of Internet E-Surveys [23].
