Freestyle Deliberate Practice Cadaveric Hand Surgery Simulation Training for Orthopedic Residents: Cohort Study

Freestyle Deliberate Practice Cadaveric Hand Surgery Simulation Training for Orthopedic Residents: Cohort Study

To assess physical fidelity, participants were asked about their perception of the realism of the cadaver as a patient and the realism of the surgical anatomy. Both were reported as being highly realistic (mean 8.77, range 6-10; and mean 9.09, range 7-10 for patient and anatomy, respectively). Environmental fidelity was assessed by asking participants about their perception of the realism of the hospital environment and multidisciplinary team.

Subsequently, mounts were designed in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2020 (Autodesk Inc), 3 D printed using a Fortus 450mc (Stratasys), and attached to the cadaver heads and surgical instruments (Figure 1b and Figure 2b). The image target was used for tracking the cadaver heads (Figure 1c) and for the half-cube for holographic verification described below (Figure 2c).
