A Clinical Study on the Efficacy of Acupuncture Treatment in Essential Hypertension: Protocol for Randomized Controlled Trial

A Clinical Study on the Efficacy of Acupuncture Treatment in Essential Hypertension: Protocol for Randomized Controlled Trial

Acupuncture offers advantages such as multitarget, multipathway, and holistic regulation in the management of hypertension [27]. Nonetheless, the current scientific basis for the modulation of primary hypertension by acupuncture is insufficient [28,29]. There are limited intervention trials comparing acupuncture with sham acupuncture in the regulation of hypertension [24].

Combination of Electroacupuncture and Medication for Patients With Tinnitus Associated With Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Protocol for a Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

Combination of Electroacupuncture and Medication for Patients With Tinnitus Associated With Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Protocol for a Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

Although the clinical practice guideline developed by Tunkel et al [19] does not mention acupuncture for the treatment of persistent tinnitus due to the lack of high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the expert panel acknowledged that many patients with persistent or bothersome tinnitus seek acupuncture therapy.

Effects and Safety of Press-Needle Therapy for Improving Visual Function and Eye Blood Circulation in Patients With Glaucoma With Controlled Intraocular Pressure: Study Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial

Effects and Safety of Press-Needle Therapy for Improving Visual Function and Eye Blood Circulation in Patients With Glaucoma With Controlled Intraocular Pressure: Study Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial

Acupuncture therapy has been used to treat glaucoma for thousands of years and has demonstrated favorable safety and convenience [5]. Acupuncture can modify glaucoma blood flow parameters to protect the optic nerve, such as increasing the flow of blood in the eye [6] and reducing anomalies of blood flow in the central artery of the retina [7]. Acupuncture treatments relay electrical signals via the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and spinal cord, finally regulating ocular blood flow [8].

Efficacy and Safety of Acupuncture for Post–COVID-19 Insomnia: Protocol for a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Efficacy and Safety of Acupuncture for Post–COVID-19 Insomnia: Protocol for a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Furthermore, acupuncture can also regulate inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α [58-62], and it can influence the gut microbiota to regulate sleep-wake behavior [63,64]. Much of the research supporting the use of acupuncture for insomnia is constrained by the limitations of low- or moderate-quality evidence and inconsistent reports regarding its clinical efficacy and safety. Furthermore, the effects of acupuncture on PCI remain largely unknown.

Neural Mechanism of Cognitive Reserve in Acupuncture Stimulation: Protocol for a Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Trial

Neural Mechanism of Cognitive Reserve in Acupuncture Stimulation: Protocol for a Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Trial

The aim of this study is to investigate the acute neural mechanisms of acupuncture stimulation concerning CR and to identify the neural substrates of CR in the group without cognitive impairment and the group with cognitive impairment using f NIRS. The participants will be divided into 2 equal groups: the verum acupuncture group (study group) and the sham acupuncture group (control group).

Acupuncture as Adjuvant Therapy for Glaucoma: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Acupuncture as Adjuvant Therapy for Glaucoma: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Possible mechanisms for acupuncture treatment have been proposed, including the release of neurochemical substances through acupuncture stimulation; the influence of acupuncture on ocular blood flow parameters [9,10]; and the upregulation of neurotrophic factors, such as nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in the retina [11].

Heat and Acupuncture to Manage Osteoarthritis of the Knee (HARMOKnee): Protocol for an Effectiveness-Implementation Hybrid Randomized Controlled Trial

Heat and Acupuncture to Manage Osteoarthritis of the Knee (HARMOKnee): Protocol for an Effectiveness-Implementation Hybrid Randomized Controlled Trial

Acupuncture is the most prevalent form of traditional medicine practice, with 183 of 202 (90.5%) surveyed countries recognizing its use, as reported by the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies [3]. A bibliometric analysis reported that of 2189 positive recommendations for the use of acupuncture, about 68% were associated with 107 pain indications [4].

Effect of Electroacupuncture Versus Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Perimenopausal Insomnia: Protocol for a Noninferiority Randomized Controlled Trial

Effect of Electroacupuncture Versus Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Perimenopausal Insomnia: Protocol for a Noninferiority Randomized Controlled Trial

Acupuncture is widely practiced in the prevention and treatment of PMI [24] and is effective in the treatment of PMI and various sleep disorders through significantly reducing Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) scores [25-27], improving sleep efficiency and overall nighttime sleep time in insomnia patients and reducing night-time wakefulness. Acupuncture is also a safe and effective treatment for perimenopausal depression with short- to medium-term efficacy [28].
