Social Media as a Platform for Cancer Care Decision-Making Among Women: Internet Survey-Based Study on Trust, Engagement, and Preferences

Social Media as a Platform for Cancer Care Decision-Making Among Women: Internet Survey-Based Study on Trust, Engagement, and Preferences

Shared decision-making (SDM) describes a process between the clinician and patient to facilitate preference-sensitive choices [2]. Decision aids, which can support the SDM process, are evidence-based tools designed to provide patients with information, clarify their preferences, and prepare them to make a choice [3,4]. In this study, we explore the potential of social media as an avenue for engagement with decision-making tools.

Therefore, despite the growing acceptance of interventions to implement SDM in health care settings, several gaps remain in the demand, perception, and clinical application of the PCC model [23,24]. In mental health care, and specifically in GAD, interventions to promote the SDM process are still very limited [25,26].

Lessons Learned From Shared Decision-Making With Oral Anticoagulants: Viewpoint on Suggestions for the Development of Oral Chemotherapy Decision Aids

Studies have shown that patients like playing an active role in care-related decision-making [4,5], clinician education is becoming geared toward facilitating SDM [6], and a lack of SDM has been associated with lower medication adherence, even when concrete decisions are made [7].

Investigating the Impact of AI on Shared Decision-Making in Post-Kidney Transplant Care (PRIMA-AI): Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Kidney transplantation is the most frequently performed solid organ transplantation and although the application of SDM prior to kidney transplantation has been discussed, little is known about how to improve SDM after transplantation [3].

Therefore, the decision regarding the organization of posttreatment surveillance (eg, frequency, duration, and examination) can be seen as a preference-sensitive decision for which shared decision-making (SDM) is identified as the preferred way of decision-making [7]. SDM can be seen as an indicator of quality of care and is being increasingly reported in breast cancer guidelines [8,9].
