Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Mobile HIV Prevention App to Increase HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Initiation Among Rural Men Who Have Sex With Men in the Southern United States: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Rural MSM, particularly rural MSM of color, represent a key group to prioritize in order to improve HIV and STI health equity across multiple dimensions. Uptake of HIV testing, STI testing, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (Pr EP) among MSM in rural areas is low.

Natural Language Processing for Identification of Hospitalized People Who Use Drugs: Cohort Study

Natural Language Processing for Identification of Hospitalized People Who Use Drugs: Cohort Study

NLP has been effectively applied to medical examiners’ reports to increase the accuracy of identifying substance use disorder-related deaths [19], identify substance use disorders in outpatients with HIV [20], and enhance preventive care for hospitalized patients with HIV [17]. In particular, regular expression (Reg Ex), a rule-based text-matching framework, has been used to identify text patterns [21].

Weekly Text Messages to Support Adherence to Oral Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Cisgender Men Who Have Sex With Men (MSM) and Transgender Women: Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial Nested in PrEP Brasil Study

Despite the global advances in HIV treatment and prevention, the HIV epidemic continues to disproportionately affect certain key populations such as gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender women. Estimated proportions of new adult infections in 2010 and 2022 increased for MSM and transgender women across all regions [1]. In Latin America, the number of new HIV cases has increased between 2010 and 2023, highlighting persistent challenges in controlling the epidemic [2].

Identifying People Living With or Those at Risk for HIV in a Nationally Sampled Electronic Health Record Repository Called the National Clinical Cohort Collaborative: Computational Phenotyping Study

For instance, some individuals had repeat HIV VL testing without any results or other HIV-related laboratory measurements, drug exposures, or medical conditions, where the repeat testing could represent monitoring not only HIV treatment but also HIV screening. We considered this uncertain classification to be of low confidence, with high concern for misclassification.

Intention to Use Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Age Groups of Brazilian Men Who Have Sex With Men: National Cross-Sectional Study

Intention to Use Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Age Groups of Brazilian Men Who Have Sex With Men: National Cross-Sectional Study

However, treatment does not fully meet the needs of the MSM population, highlighting the need to target Antiretroviral Therapy across different age groups to reduce new HIV infections [7]. The number of individuals infected with HIV varies based on age and sexual behavior. In Brazil, approximately 1 million people live with HIV, with a growing proportion of infections among those aged 13 years to 39 years, particularly among MSM (526/1.000, 52.6%).

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Digital Health Portal to Improve HIV Care Engagement Among Kenyan Youth: Mixed Methods Study

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Digital Health Portal to Improve HIV Care Engagement Among Kenyan Youth: Mixed Methods Study

The development of the web-based health portal was motivated by the pressing need to address the disproportionate burden of HIV among young people, who account for a significant share of new infections and HIV-related deaths globally. Leveraging the readiness of adolescents and young people to adopt internet-based digital health solutions, this initiative aimed to bridge critical gaps in health care delivery [3,4].

Validation of the Perceived Barriers to Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence (PEDIA) Scale Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men and Transgender and Nonbinary Persons: Cross-Sectional Study

Validation of the Perceived Barriers to Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence (PEDIA) Scale Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men and Transgender and Nonbinary Persons: Cross-Sectional Study

Worldwide estimates point to 30.7 million out of 39.9 million (76.9%) people living with HIV with access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) at the end of 2023 [1]. However, ART adherence is a challenge for people living with HIV across multiple settings and populations [2]. Brazil’s HIV epidemic is characterized as a concentrated epidemic, with specific populations bearing a disproportionate burden of the disease.

Behavioral and Demographic Profiles of HIV Transmission and Exposure Networks in Florida: Network Analysis of HIV Contact Tracing Data

Behavioral and Demographic Profiles of HIV Transmission and Exposure Networks in Florida: Network Analysis of HIV Contact Tracing Data

The burden of HIV has long been felt disproportionately across gender, sexual, and racial or ethnic minority groups in the United States. Historically, men who have sex with men (MSM) have had the highest risk of acquiring HIV and made up a majority (69%) of new HIV diagnoses in 2019 [1]. Among MSM, non-Hispanic Black MSM account for a large proportion of new diagnoses. Furthermore, many non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic MSM are unaware of their HIV status, which can lead to further transmission [1].

Mobile Health Intervention Tools Promoting HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Sub-Saharan Africa: Scoping Review

Mobile Health Intervention Tools Promoting HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Sub-Saharan Africa: Scoping Review

Since 2010, new global HIV infections have decreased by 39%, but the occurrence of 1.3 million new infections in 2022 still exceeds the 2020 Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) target of 500,000 [1]. The decrease in new infections coincides with the global scale-up of preventative services in high-prevalence countries; however, more work is needed to reach the ambitious target of 370,000 new infections by 2025, especially among key populations [2,3].

Sexual Health Determinants During the Life Course and Migration of Haitian-Origin People in French Guiana: Protocol for the Parcours d’Haïti Biographical and Transdisciplinary Study

Sexual Health Determinants During the Life Course and Migration of Haitian-Origin People in French Guiana: Protocol for the Parcours d’Haïti Biographical and Transdisciplinary Study

French Guiana is the French territory most affected by HIV, with a prevalence >1% in the general population [9]. Most people living with HIV in French Guiana are of foreign origin [10]. Recent studies in French Guiana (one based on the slope of CD4 decline and the other on virus phylogeny) showed that, among the foreign population living with HIV, more than half had been infected in French Guiana [10,11].
