In addition, this measure has been found to have good internal reliability and validity [46].
The State Hope Scale (SHS) [47] is a 6-item self-report scale that measures hope and optimism around one’s goals. Items are split into 2 subscales, agency items (eg, “at present, I am energetically pursuing my goals”) refer to one’s ability to start and complete actions, and pathway items (eg, “I can think of many ways to reach my current goals”) refer to the routes available to reach one’s goals.

As this protocol is still considered research, all navigators will receive training related to the ethical conduct of clinical research (ie, good clinical practice). Navigators are integrated into STI/Pr EP clinic procedures but, for this protocol, are hired study staff within the study team.
Although not required, navigators may have been previously or currently prescribed Pr EP. They will also be trained on personal safety, discreet tactics for follow-up tracing, and confidentiality.

All staff involved in data collection will be trained on the assessments by the principal investigator, and all research staff will complete training on informed consent, good clinical practices, and all safety and reporting protocols as certified by New York University’s institutional review board (IRB).
To determine the extent to which the program is delivered as intended, treatment fidelity will be monitored by research staff who observe selected sessions and rate the content delivered using checklists.

For example, digitalized versions of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, Mini-Mental State Examination, and Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Subscale have been validated and show good consistency with traditional paper-and-pencil methods [17], offering advantages such as automated scoring and real-time data analysis.

Recommendations for Successful Development and Implementation of Digital Health Technology Tools
For example, a study of 7 wrist-worn devices [25] found good heart rate accuracy but poor energy expenditure estimates (27.4% to 92.6% error), highlighting the importance of rigorous validation across diverse populations before clinical implementation.
Apart from validating measurement accuracy for all digital measurement devices, sampling frequency and duration should capture relevant physiological dynamics.

Overall, much good is expected from the developments taking place regarding routine health care data.
At the same time, there is an ongoing debate about the fitness for the purpose of EHR data for secondary use [1]. Studies have concluded EHR data to be accurate and reliable for the identification of symptoms and diseases, and to be informative of health care consumption rates, suggesting no further verification is needed prior to the secondary use of these data [16,17].

It is also freely available, making it a good option for research centers to use while conducting epidemiological investigations [6]. REDCap is compliant with FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act), GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and 21 CFR Part 11 (Part 11 of Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations) [13].
