A recent systematic review by van der Vegt et al [29] examined the current use of artificial intelligence for predicting clinical deterioration. They found that while many groups have developed promising machine learning models using methods such as logistic regression, Extreme Gradient Boosting, and random forests, few have developed deep learning models. Deep learning models have, on average, outperformed nondeep learning models [30-32].
