Panos Bamidis, PhD

Bio

In the last six years, Dr Bamidis has been the co-ordinator of five large European projects (SmokeFreeBrain.org; www.meducator.net; www.longlastingmemories.eu, www.epblnet.eu, www.childrenhealth.eu); and was principal investigator for a number of national and international funded projects. Among his specific research interests includes the use of virtual patients for medical education and training.

 


 

Mircea Focsa, MD, PhD

Associate Professor, University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timisoara

Bio

Mircea Focsa is a medical doctor and specialist in public health and healthcare management. His great attraction to the IT domain lead his research to fields like database and knowledge management, bio-signals and image processing, biostatistics, and medical ontology. He earned hi PhD in medical informatics and was involved as member or team leader in several European and national research projects related to EHR systems (QREC, EHR-QTN, epSOS). He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Medical Informatics at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timisoara and recently became an Expert Evaluator of the European Commission for eHealth Projects.

 



Brian Mavis, PhD 

Associate Professor and Director, Office of Medical Education Research at Michigan State University (USA).

Research Focus

Dr Mavis' research expertise focuses on program evaluation in medical education, survey design, and performance evaluation.

 


 

Bertalan Mesko, MD PhD

Bio

Bertalan Mesko is known as "The Medical Futurist", author of "My Health: Upgraded" and other books, speaker, and refers to himself as a "geek doctor with PhD in genomics". While still a medical student, Dr. Mesko was one of the early adopters of social media for medical education.

 


 

Francois Modave, PhD 

Associate Professor, University of Florida, USA

Bio

Dr. Modave is a computer scientist and  associate professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Florida (USA). His research focuses on the development of algorithms and their informatics implementation for biomedical problems, with a particular emphasis on the understanding of medical decision-making processes, as well as mHealth for physical activity, and general wellbeing. Dr. Modave is/has been the recipient of awards from the National Cancer Institute, the National Science Foundation, Army Research Lab, NASA / Boeing, and IBM.

  


 

Christopher Ramnanan, PhD

Assistant Professor, University of Ottawa, Department of Innovation in Medical Education, Canada

Bio

Dr Ramnanan has been involved in promoting medical student scholarship (teaching and research skill development) and in medical anatomy education for nearly 10 years, as part of the teaching Faculty at three different institutions (Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, The Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University, and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine). He has published over 30 articles including medical education and basic science papers in top tier journals such as Academic Medicine, Medical Education, Anatomical Sciences Education, Diabetes, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation. 

 

 


 

Aviv Shachak, PhD

Associate Professor, University of Toronto, Canada

Bio

Dr Shachak is Associate Professor at the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation and the Faculty of Information of the University of Toronto (Canada). Dr Shachak's work seeks to improve usage and realizing the benefits of health information technology through end-user support, documentation, and educational interventions such as simulation-based training.

He is particularly interested in education of health care professionals to practice in an environment that is profoundly affected by the availability of information and information and communication technologies (including both clinical and patient-directed technologies). Another area he is interested in is simulation (both low and high fidelity) as an educational tool.
